Craigieburn (including Beveridge)
Old highway stopover which is now a residential area on the fringe of Melbourne
Craigieburn is located adjacent the Hume Highway 26 km north of Melbourne's city centre and 213 metres above sea-level. The name Craigieburn, which reflects the Scottish origins of the first European settlers, is derived from an historic bluestone inn which plied the highway trade at the old 15-mile post. The settlement that developed around this nucleus is now an expanding residential area which was once occupied by the Woiwurung Aborigines. The Reserve Banknote Printing Works is located here which, since government cutbacks, has ceased its side activity as a museum/tourist attraction.

Beveridge Birdworld
16 km north of Craigieburn, on the eastern side of the Hume Freeway, is Beveridge. At 295 Camerons Lane is Beveridge Birdworld - a lake and bird complex with a hedge maze, animal nursery, playground and picnic/barbecue facilities. It is open daily from 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., tel: (03) 9745 2539.
