Erldunda
A
well-located roadhouse offering alternative accommodation for visitors
to Uluru.
Erldunda is located ideally for people not wanting to
pay the exorbitant tariffs which the monopoly of Yulara imposes on all
people who wish to stay near Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Kata Tjuta (The
Olgas). Although located 253 km from Uluru the amount of money saved,
particularly if it is only intended to spend a day in the Uluru
National Park, would justify the distance.
Erldunda promotes itself, with some justification,
as a very superior roadhouse. Located where the Stuart Highway and the
Lasseter Highway meet, Erldunda is 200 km from Alice Springs, 1683 km
from Darwin and 1337 km from Adelaide.
With 100 powered caravan sites, 54 motel units and
34 budget units, a 100 seat restaurant and a wide range of additional
facilities the owners are gearing themselves to the reality that people
will choose a budget alternative rather than the excessive prices of
Yulara. They have expanded their facilities with a permanent exhibition
from the Brisbane Expo and an excellent swimming pool. They also have
an attractive tavern and petrol and diesel which is considerably
cheaper than that at Yulara.
The site of Erldunda Motel Caravan Park is 20 hectares
which have been carved off the edge of Erldunda Station.
