    Travellers tales

VIC - Wilsons Promontory, VIC - Dreaming About - Wilsons Promontory

Any self respecting Victorian will know about The Prom. It's a place of serene yet rugged beauty where you can spend your days climbing mountains, walking beaches and watching the wildlife and your nights listening to the ocean, breathing the fresh air and marvelling at the blanket of stars across the sky.

The Prom is situated on the Southern most tip of the Australian mainland and it's a haven for families, surfers, bushwalkers and bunches of recent school leavers (so pick your visiting time carefully - schoolies week can be ... interesting!)

It's impossible to dislike the place (unless of course your entire weekend consisted of huddling up in your tent as one of those sensational storms from the Antarctic blew through) and the view from the top of Mt Oberon is nothing short of exhilirating. It's generally a relief to see it too - the climb up usually results in heavy asthmatic type breathing and I think most people spend a fair amount of time on the rock just to let the lactic acid in their legs calm down.

I've been travelling in Europe for the past 5 months and am now living in London. It is becoming increasingly evident to me that there really is 'no place like home'. Of all the places I dream about most (apart from my home in Melbourne of course!), Wilson's Prom easily tops the list. If you haven't been, you're simply missing out!
