    Meredith (including Lethbridge)
Historic service centre in rural district
Meredith is located on the Midland Highway 100 km west of Melbourne, if you travel cross-country, or 118 km if you travel along the main highways via Geelong. It developed adjacent the Coolebarghurk Creek in the 1850s on the gold route to Ballarat. Today it is a small centre of about 320 people amidst a large dairying and agricultural district.

The streets were named after pioneer settlers when the town was first laid out. Two historic homesteads reflect the early European history of the district. These are 'Darra', a Georgian brick homestead built in 1842 as 'Durdidwarrah' by pastoralist Charles Augustus von Steiglitz (see entry on Steiglitz which is located 10 km south-east of Meredith), and 'Woodbourne' homestead, built of horizontal pit-sawn timber planks between 1844 and 1853. The former is on the eastern side of town and the latter to the west.

    Shire Hall
The former shire hall in Staughton Street is a single-storey structure built in 1878 of rock-faced basalt squares and limestone from Waurn Ponds. It is an eclectic design by Alexander Davidson with Corinthian columns, a prominent gabled portico and arcade. Also of interest are the railway station (1862) and the Victorian bluestone state school.

    Lethbridge
Lethbridge is a pastoral town located 16 km south of Meredith on the Midland Highway. A local bluestone quarry (the site can be viewed from the railway bridge) supplied the material used in the construction of drystone fences in the area, as well as the local railway station and those at Meredith and Bannockburn. The last major use of this bluestone, before the quarry closed, was for the spire of St Mary's at Geelong. The local school, railway station and water tower are of interest.
